What makes a lip balm vegan

Most balms are not. The usual animal-derived ingredients are beeswax, lanolin (from wool), carmine (a pigment made from insects) and occasionally honey or shellac.

Ours uses plant-based waxes and butters instead — candelilla wax and shea butter in place of beeswax, grape seed oil for slip — the same performance, nothing animal-derived. Vegan and cruelty-free are separate claims, and this is both.

Why balm rather than gloss

Gloss sits on top and needs constant reapplying. A balm is built to stay put and keep working, which is why it ends up being the thing you actually repurchase rather than the thing you lose in a bag.

It also layers. Wear it alone, or under colour when you want the colour to sit more comfortably.

Where it fits

Nowhere in particular, which is the point. Not an AM step or a PM step — just the small useful thing that lives in a pocket. It sits alongside the Tinted Moisturizer and Oil-Free Daily Moisturizer in Daily Essentials.

Is this lip balm vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes — 100% vegan, made with candelilla wax, shea butter, and grape seed oil instead of beeswax or any other animal-derived ingredient, and never tested on animals.

Does it have SPF?
No — this balm doesn't contain SPF. For daytime wear, we recommend applying your favorite lip-safe sunscreen underneath.
